Extended Family Session | Lanett, AL | Alabama Family Photography

This session happened on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Lanett, AL. I have been taking Kate’s family's photos for years and her mom’s birthday was coming up. It had been over 20 years since new photos had been taken (other than from weddings) and the family had definitely grown. Seemed like the best gift for mom for her birthday! I mean, what mom wouldn’t want that? So, I packed up my gear and headed east to meet the whole crew. Let me tell you, they were a delight!

I always start with the large group photo first. Once we make sure we get that main shot that I know mom will want framed, we can move on to smaller groups. At the beginning of the session everyone is happiest and eager to give their best smiles. Plus, when young kids are involved, getting that extended group shot done means the the kids can have a break while we move on to the smaller group photos. It’s a win all the way around. I was so pumped when the very first shot of the entire group I got everyone smiling AND looking at the camera. For a photographer, no matter how talented he or she is, this is nothing short of a miracle (first photo below).

I feel like this family is just oozing with joy. It is evident they love they have between them. I am a firm believer that extended family photos need to be taken on the regular. They are such a great way to record family history. How often do you make sure you have extended family photos taken?
